Easy Place Mode in Litematica — What It Does and the Server Warning You Must Read

Easy Place is a built-in Litematica feature that simplifies placing blocks against a hologram: instead of maneuvering so you can click the correct face of a neighbouring block, you aim directly at the ghost block and use-click — Litematica makes the right block land there, with the right orientation. It is the single biggest quality-of-life feature for survival building, and it comes with the most important warning on this entire site, which is why the server section below is required reading before you use Easy Place anywhere but single player.

What Easy Place Actually Changes

Vanilla block placement has an unwritten rule: you can only place a block by clicking a face of an existing block, from a position where you can reach that face. Building a ceiling, a floor you are standing above, or the far side of a wall turns into scaffolding gymnastics. Easy Place removes that constraint for schematic blocks. With it enabled, you look at the ghost block you want to fill and press (or hold) your use key; the mod performs the placement interaction against the target position for you, taking the matching block from your hotbar or inventory and applying the orientation the schematic specifies — stairs face the right way, slabs sit on the correct half — without you having to set up each click.

What it does not do is build on its own. You still walk the build, aim at each block and click. Fully automatic construction is the printer, and the printer is not part of Litematica: the project’s documentation states it is not planned for the mod itself and is left to third-party extension mods. If a video shows a build constructing itself untouched, that is an add-on, not Easy Place.

Turning Easy Place On

  1. Press M + C to open the Litematica configuration GUI.
  2. Open the Generic settings and enable Easy Place Mode.
  3. Close the config and return to your placement — no restart needed.

While you build, the practical technique is simple: hold the use key and sweep your view across the ghost blocks, and keep the needed materials in your inventory — the material list tells you exactly what a sweep will consume. Building one layer at a time keeps the sweeping manageable on large floors and roofs.

Easy Place vs. Normal Placement, Honestly

  • Speed: dramatically faster on ceilings, floors, roofs and the far sides of walls; roughly the same on simple walls at eye level.
  • Accuracy: block states (orientation, half, facing) come from the schematic, which removes the most common manual errors.
  • Effort: you still place every block yourself, in person. Easy Place is an aiming aid, not automation.
  • Availability: single player — always fine. Multiplayer — that depends entirely on the server, which brings us to the warning.

⚠️ The Server Warning (Read This Before Multiplayer)

The Litematica documentation itself warns about Easy Place on servers, and the warning deserves to be quoted in substance: Easy Place works by always clicking the target position’s block — effectively clicking “through” to where the ghost block is — in a way that does not look like a normal player click. Server anti-cheat systems can and do detect this pattern. The documented outcomes are:

  • Placements rejected: the server refuses the interaction, the block disappears on the server side, and you are left with client-side ghost blocks that are not really there.
  • Automatic bans: some anti-cheat setups escalate the same detection to an automatic ban, with no human reviewing your case first.

So the rule is simple: in single player, use Easy Place as much as you like. On any multiplayer server, use it only if that server’s rules explicitly allow Litematica and Easy Place-style placement — many technical and building servers do allow it, many survival servers do not — and if blocks ever start vanishing after you place them, stop immediately: that is a rejection happening in real time. “It is just a client mod” is not protection; the clicks are what the server judges. The rest of Litematica — the hologram, material list and verifier — only reads and displays information and does not have this problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Easy Place built into Litematica or a separate mod?

It is built into Litematica itself — no extra download is needed. That is the opposite of the printer: automatic printing is not part of Litematica at all and only exists as third-party add-on mods. Easy Place still places blocks one at a time through your own clicks; it just removes the awkward aiming.

Can I get banned for using Easy Place on a server?

You can, and the mod’s own documentation warns about it: Easy Place clicks the air position of the target block, which anti-cheat systems can detect. Depending on the server, placements can be silently rejected — leaving ghost blocks only you can see — or the anti-cheat can ban automatically. Use it in single player freely; on a server, only where the rules clearly allow it.

Why do my blocks appear and then vanish on a server?

That is the rejection case: your client placed the block with an Easy Place click, the server’s anti-cheat refused the interaction, and the block snaps back to being a client-side ghost. It is the sign to stop using Easy Place on that server — the blocks are not really there.

Should I leave Easy Place on all the time?

Most players switch it on for building sessions and off afterwards. While it is active, clicks aimed at ghost blocks are interpreted as placement clicks, which is exactly what you want mid-build and mildly annoying the rest of the time.

Next Steps

Easy Place is one piece of the full workflow in how to use Litematica. If clicks ever feel unresponsive, check your bindings in the keybinds guide, and make sure you are running the current build for your game version from the download hub.
