Yes — Litematica works on Mac, including Apple Silicon machines, and there is no separate “Mac version” to find. Minecraft Java Edition and the Fabric loader run natively on macOS, so you install the identical Litematica and MaLiLib files that Windows players use. If a site offers you a special Mac build or a Mac installer, close the tab — the real files are the standard jars from Modrinth.
Why the Same Files Work on macOS
Java Edition is cross-platform by design: the game, Fabric, and mods are all Java code, and the official Minecraft Launcher for macOS runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1 and later) and supplies a matching Java runtime. Nothing about Litematica is Windows-specific — it draws its holograms inside the Java client, reads .litematic files from the game folder, and works the same on macOS, Windows, and Linux. The only thing that differs between platforms is where the game folder lives.
What You Need
The same three pieces as any other platform: Minecraft Java Edition, the Fabric Loader installed for your game version, and the matched pair of jars — Litematica plus MaLiLib for exactly your Minecraft version (the pairing matters; see the latest version page for the current combinations). Fabric API is not required. Grab the files from the download hub, where each game version links its correct pair.
Installing Litematica on a Mac
1. Download and run the Fabric Loader installer for your Minecraft version, then launch the game once using the new Fabric profile so all folders are created.
2. Open the mods folder: in Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods.
3. Drop the Litematica and MaLiLib jar files into that folder — do not unzip them.
4. For your schematics, create or open the neighbouring schematics folder (~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/schematics) and put your .litematic files there.
5. Launch the Fabric profile, open a world, and press M — the Litematica main menu should appear. The full walkthrough, including how to verify the install, is in how to install Litematica.
The M Key on Mac: The One Common Snag
The most frequent Mac-specific complaint is that pressing M does nothing. On macOS this is usually the system or another app intercepting the key, or a keyboard layout wrinkle — the mod itself is fine. Litematica lets you rebind its keys in its configuration (M + C, under the Hotkeys tab), and our dedicated guide walks through the causes in order: why the Litematica menu won’t open and how to fix it. One more Mac-flavoured note: function-key shortcuts in the mod assume standard F-keys, so if your Mac is set to use F1–F12 as media keys, either hold Fn or change that in macOS keyboard settings.
Performance and Shaders on Mac
Large holograms are rendered by your client, so a big schematic is heavier than the same area of ordinary world — lowering the game’s render distance while building helps on any Mac. And one compatibility note that applies on all platforms: on Minecraft 1.21.3 and newer, Litematica’s rendering does not work correctly with shaders enabled, and the project’s guidance is to turn shaders off while using it. With shaders off it coexists fine with performance mods such as Sodium.
A macOS-Specific Hurdle: Opening the Fabric Installer
One step confuses Mac users who have never modded before: the Fabric Loader installer is itself a small Java program, and macOS may refuse to open a downloaded program it cannot verify, with a warning that it is from an unidentified developer. This is Gatekeeper doing its normal job on downloaded executables — it is not a problem with the file. The standard remedy is to right-click (or Control-click) the installer and choose Open, which lets you confirm once and run it. The Litematica and MaLiLib jars themselves are never opened directly — they are only read by the game — so no such warning applies to them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Litematica work on Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4)?
Yes. The Minecraft Launcher and Java Edition run natively on Apple Silicon, and Litematica is loaded by Fabric inside the Java client, so it works the same as on Intel Macs or Windows PCs.
Do I need a special Mac version of Litematica?
No. There is only one set of release files — the standard .jar builds on Modrinth and CurseForge. The same jar works on macOS, Windows, and Linux; only the game folder location differs.
Where is the mods folder on a Mac?
In Finder use Go → Go to Folder and open ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods for the mod jars. Your .litematic files go in the schematics folder next to it: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/schematics.
Why doesn’t the M menu open on my Mac?
Usually macOS or another program is intercepting the key, not a broken mod. You can rebind Litematica’s keys in its config (M + C, Hotkeys tab). Our menu-not-opening guide covers the causes step by step.
