Stop troubleshooting: Litematica does not have a printer. There is no printer feature, printer mode or printer setting anywhere in the mod — masa’s official description says Litematica has the features of the old Schematica mod except the printer, which is explicitly not planned for Litematica itself and is left to extension mods. So “the Litematica printer is not working” almost always means one of two things: you are using a separate third-party printer extension and it has its own problem, or you expected automatic building from Litematica itself and are looking for a switch that does not exist. This page separates the two and gives you the working routes for each.
Route 1: You Want Automatic Building — Use Easy Place, or Accept the Manual Design
Litematica’s intended survival workflow is: the mod shows you the hologram, and you place the blocks. The built-in help for that is Easy Place, a genuine Litematica feature that simplifies placing blocks against the hologram — you still hold the blocks and do the placing, but with far less fiddling per block. If Easy Place is enabled and nothing happens, that is a real, fixable problem with its own checklist: Easy Place not working. The only fully automatic placement inside vanilla Litematica is the Creative-mode paste helper (in multiplayer it works through /setblock and needs permissions), which is a creative tool, not a survival printer. Anyone who told you Litematica “has a printer like Schematica did” was describing the old mod, or an extension — not this one.
Route 2: You Installed a Printer Extension and It Fails
Printer functionality for Litematica exists only as third-party extension mods — separate projects, by separate authors, that plug into Litematica. Several circulate under similar names (aria1th’s litematica-printer and aleksilassila’s litematica-printer line are the best-known ones, with further forks besides), which is itself a source of confusion: “the printer mod” is not one thing, and versions are not interchangeable. If your printer extension does not work:
- Identify exactly which extension and version you have — the file name in your mods folder, not just “printer”. Fixes and requirements differ per project.
- Check that extension’s own requirements. Extensions have their own dependency lists, which are not Litematica’s: some printer extensions require Fabric API even though Litematica itself does not. A missing extension dependency stops the extension (or the game) exactly like a missing MaLiLib stops Litematica — see the mismatch guide for how loader dependency errors read.
- Match versions three ways: extension build ↔ Litematica build ↔ Minecraft version. Printer extensions hook into Litematica’s internals, so an extension built for a different Litematica line is the most common cause of “it just stopped after I updated”.
- Get support from the extension’s author — its Modrinth or GitHub page is where its issues are tracked. Litematica’s channels cannot fix a third-party add-on, and neither can reinstalling Litematica itself.
Route 3: It “Works” but the Server Punishes It
If your printer extension places blocks in single player but blocks get rejected, rolled back or flagged on your server, nothing is broken — the server is defending itself. Fully automatic placement is precisely what anti-cheat systems are built to catch, and the same warning masa attaches to Easy Place (placements refused, ghost blocks, possible automatic bans) applies to printer extensions with far more force. Read the server’s rules before using one in multiplayer; on most public survival servers the honest answer is that automatic printers are not allowed, and the supported way to build is the hologram plus your own hands, with Easy Place where the server permits it.
How to Tell Whether You Even Have a Printer Extension Installed
Many “printer not working” reports come from players who never installed an extension at all — they enabled Easy Place, or read about a printer in a Schematica-era guide, and assumed the rest. Check your mods folder: alongside litematica-*.jar and malilib-*.jar, a printer setup has a third jar whose name mentions the printer project. If there is no such file, there is no printer to fix — what you have is stock Litematica, and the routes above (Easy Place, Creative paste) are the whole menu. If there is such a file, note its exact name and version before changing anything: that string is what the extension’s own support page will ask for, and it decides which Litematica line the extension expects.
The Short Version
Litematica: hologram, material list, verifier, Easy Place — all built in, all supported here. Printer: not built in, never was, officially not planned. Your realistic options are to build with Easy Place, to use a named third-party extension and take its issues to its own author, or to use Creative paste where you have the rights. The troubleshooting hub indexes the genuine Litematica problems; our Easy Place guide is the right starting point for faster legitimate building.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Litematica have a printer?
No. Officially, Litematica has the features of the old Schematica mod except the printer, which is not planned for Litematica itself. Automatic printing exists only in separate third-party extension mods.
My printer extension stopped working after an update. Why?
Printer extensions hook into Litematica’s internals, so they break when the extension build, the Litematica build and the Minecraft version are not matched to each other. Identify the exact extension you use, check its own page for the matching build and its own dependencies, and get support from its author.
What is the closest built-in alternative to a printer?
Easy Place. It is part of Litematica itself and simplifies placing blocks against the hologram while you hold and place them yourself. It is not automatic building, and on servers it carries the same anti-cheat caution as any placement helper.
