Easy Place Not Working in Litematica? Isolate the Real Cause

Easy Place is enabled, the hologram is in front of you, you are holding the right block — and nothing places. When Easy Place does nothing, the cause is one of a short list: the mode is not actually active for your current placement, the server is rejecting the placements, your mod versions do not match, or another mod is interfering. The fastest way through is to isolate first: prove Easy Place works in a single-player world, then move to the server case. Do not start by reinstalling things at random.

Step 0: Prove It in Single Player First

Create or open a single-player world, load any small schematic, stand at the hologram with the correct block in hand, and try Easy Place there. This one test splits the problem in half:

  • It works in single player but not on your server → your install is fine. The problem is server-side (see “The Server Is Rejecting It” below). No local change will fix that.
  • It fails in single player too → the problem is local: activation, versions, or a mod conflict. Continue with the checks below.

Check 1: Is Easy Place Actually On — and Are You Using It Right?

Easy Place is a mode you switch on in Litematica’s configuration (M + C); our Easy Place guide covers where the toggle lives and how the mode behaves. With it on, the mechanics are specific: Easy Place works against a loaded, rendered placement, while you hold the item the hologram calls for, and it places by interacting with the target position the way the mode describes — it is an assist for your own placing, not a background process that fills the schematic while you watch. Confirm the basics in order: the schematic is loaded and its placement is enabled, schematic rendering is on (M + G), you are looking at the hologram’s blocks (not standing far outside the placement), and you are holding the exact block for the spot you are aiming at. If any link in that chain is missing, Easy Place appears to “do nothing” because, from its point of view, there is nothing valid to do. Also remember the mode only ever fills the placement you are working on — it does not reach blocks behind you or outside the loaded schematic.

Check 2: The Server Is Rejecting It (Anti-Cheat and Rules)

This is the cause players least want to hear, and the most common one on public servers. Easy Place places blocks by interacting with the air block at the target position, which is exactly the kind of behaviour server anti-cheat watches for. Masa’s own documentation carries the warning: placements can be refused — leaving you with client-side ghost blocks that are not really there — or the anti-cheat can ban automatically. If single player works and the server does not, or blocks appear and then vanish, the server is rejecting the interactions, and there is no client setting that overrides that. Your options are to build the schematic by hand against the hologram (what the mod is designed for), to ask the server’s staff whether Litematica and Easy Place are allowed, or to build on a server where they are. Using it anyway after this warning risks the account, and “the mod let me” is not a defence — check the server’s rules before using placement helpers in multiplayer, every time.

Check 3: Version Mismatch

Easy Place depends on Litematica and MaLiLib working as a matched pair for your Minecraft version. A mismatched or leftover old jar can break individual features even when the game starts. Make sure the mods folder contains exactly one Litematica jar and one MaLiLib jar, paired to your game version (26.3 → Litematica 0.29.1 + MaLiLib 0.30.2; 26.2 → 0.28.8 + 0.29.6; 26.1.x → 0.27.14 + 0.28.12; 1.21.11 → 0.26.16 + 0.27.20). The full reasoning and the duplicate-jar trap are in the MaLiLib version mismatch guide.

Check 4: Another Mod Is Interfering

If Easy Place worked before and stopped after you changed your mod set, suspect a conflict. Isolate it the standard way: temporarily move your other mods out of the mods folder except Litematica and MaLiLib, test Easy Place in single player, then add mods back in halves until the failure returns. The last group added contains the culprit. Input-related mods and anything that changes how block placement or reaching works are the usual suspects. While you test, also verify your use/place key still works normally in vanilla play — if the key itself was rebound by another mod or by keyboard software, Easy Place never receives the input it expects, a problem shared with the menu key conflicts.

Still Nothing?

If Easy Place fails in a clean single-player test with a matched pair and an enabled placement, step back to the symptom index in Litematica not working and the troubleshooting hub — and check whether what you actually want is full automation. That feature is not Easy Place and not part of Litematica at all; see the printer explainer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Easy Place works in single player but not on my server. Why?

The server is rejecting the placements. Easy Place interacts with the air block at the target position, which anti-cheat systems watch for; placements can be refused or even trigger automatic bans. Check the server’s rules — there is no client setting that overrides a server refusal.

What does Easy Place need in order to place a block?

A loaded, enabled placement with rendering on, you aiming at the hologram, and the exact block it asks for in your hand. If any of those is missing, Easy Place does nothing rather than placing the wrong thing.

Easy Place stopped working after I added new mods. What should I do?

Isolate the conflict: remove your other mods except Litematica and MaLiLib, confirm Easy Place works in single player, then add mods back in halves until it breaks again. The last group added contains the interfering mod.
